Casting call · Comedians wanted
Be the voice at the table.
Boneyard City Dominoes is casting comedians to voice the players at our tables: the trash talk, the celebrations, the "you did NOT just play that." If you can make a domino table laugh, we want to hear you.
What to record
Twenty moments from the table. The examples are just ideas: say each one your way. Your own jokes win.
- Sitting down at the table. Example: "Wash 'em good. I'm about to take your lunch money."
- Laying the first bone. Example: "Big six, baby. Everybody follow me."
- Scoring 15 points. Example: "Fifteen! Write it down before you forget it."
- Scoring big (25 or more). Example: "Twenty-five! Somebody call the bank, we got a withdrawal!"
- The opponent has to pass. Example: "Pass? Oh, you're just sightseeing today."
- You have to pass. Example: "Paso… don't look at me like that."
- Your partner makes a bad play. Example: "Partner… we gonna talk about that in the car."
- Your partner makes a great play. Example: "That's my partner! I raised that one!"
- The opponent is slow. Example: "The clock is ticking, Grandpa. We got jobs in the morning."
- Drawing from the boneyard. Example: "Come on, boneyard, be good to me tonight."
- Domino! (going out). Example: "Domino! Count 'em up and weep."
- A skunk (the other side scores zero). Example: "Skunk! Somebody open a window!"
- Losing a close hand. Example: "That was luck. Pure luck. Run it back."
- Getting blocked (nobody can play). Example: "Locked up tighter than the county jail."
- A Puerto Rican capicú. Example: "¡Capicú! Both ends, baby, both ends!"
- Slamming a double. Example: "Double! Feel that in your chest?"
- Talking trash before the game. Example: "I play dominoes like rent's due. Because it is."
- Winning the game. Example: "Game! Tell your friends you saw a legend."
- Losing the game. Example: "I'm not mad. I'm documenting."
- A big reaction (no words). Example: "Your best laugh, a groan, and an "Ohhhh!""
Keep it clean enough for a game: no slurs, no real people's names, nothing you didn't write yourself. Spanish, Spanglish and any accent are welcome.
How to record it
- Find a quiet room. Turn off the TV, the music and the fan. Small rooms with a couch and curtains sound best.
- Open your phone's voice recorder (Voice Memos on iPhone, Recorder on Android). Hold the phone about 6 inches from your mouth.
- Start with your name, your stage name, and "Boneyard City audition."
- Say the number of each moment, then perform it 2 or 3 ways: normal, louder, and your wildest take. Leave a breath of silence between takes.
- Play it back once. If it sounds muddy or too loud, move the phone back a little and try again.
- Share it as one file (or a few), or upload it to Google Drive, Dropbox or YouTube (unlisted) and send us the link.
